The Great Pyrenees are known as the "Gentle Giants" of the dog world and the pinnacle of patience and composure. Typical Pyr temperment is a loving, kind, patient, trustworthy dog that is amazingly intuitive and sensitive to their owners feelings and emotions. While Pyrs can be fiercly protective of their flock and owners they are extrodinarily tolerant and gentle with young children. Pyrs will give sufficient warning to an intruder (bark, growl etc) and will only attack as a last resort if the intruder does not retreat. Big Ben and Tia are our Great Pyrenees Guardians for our goat herd. Ben is a 3 year old male and Tia is 2 year old female. Both of them have proven time and time again to be a great asset and friend to our family and goats. Ben and Tia have had one litter of pups so far and the feedback from the owners of the puppies has been very good. The new owners cannot believe the things these pups are doing at such a young age as 3 months old and the natural guardian instincts they posess. The puppies are raised from birth with the goats and stay in with the herd until they go to their new homes. I would recommend one of these beautiful animals to anyone with livestock for predator control. Like I tell my customers you have to own one to realize what a truly amazing dog the Great Pyrenees truly are. They also make excellent personal protection dogs and they are the best babysitter going!
